Advocacy Research Intern: Fall 2019

Reports To: Eric Boerer, Advocacy Director
Position Type: Part-Time Internship, 10-15 hours per week
Time Frame: September 2019 – December 2019

Job Purpose:
The BikePGH Advocacy Research Intern will be responsible for researching various biking and walking data of Pittsburgh and each Pittsburgh Council District. We intend to publish a “State of Biking and Walking” report that will offer a snapshot of biking and walking infrastructure, crashes, funding, etc. We will work together to create the report and publish on our website. Intern will need skills to research both on the internet and the ability to seek out data from the City and State, among other sources. Throughout the internship, candidate will be expected to create content based off the research onto our blog

Essential Functions and Duties:

      • The Advocacy Research Intern will work closely with the Advocacy Director to determine which data to cultivate.
      • Thoroughly mine and exploit data in service of our strategic goals.
      • Help generate a narrative based off of research and analysis.
      • Generate blog and website content.
    • Work with Advocacy Director on new projects concerning research as they arise. 

Desired Skills:

      • Proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets.
      • Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work with an attention to details.
      • Good communication skills with fellow staff.
      • Must be able to exercise discretion and independent judgment as well as pursue previously untried data management and manipulation. 
      • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, communication skills.
      • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
      • Ability to work and make decisions independently.
    • Passion for the mission of BikePGH and a strong interest in bicycle and pedestrian advocacy.
